Laser fine welding - great processing variety for filigree applications

In addition to laser fine cutting, structuring or marking, laser fine welding, among other things, complements our range of services. This is a processing technology that is indispensable for medical instruments, in the fast-growing e-mobility sector for drive technology and power electronics, as well as in aerospace and precision engineering.

We weld together what belongs together

The advantages of this laser process enable high-precision production thanks to a narrow and slim weld seam shape and low thermal influence. We rely on processing without the use of additional material, which means that the finest weld seams from 40µm are possible and repeat and general tolerances ±50µm are maintained, which is particularly required in the electrical industry, aerospace and medical technology.

Due to our know-how in fine welding and the processing of special materials, we can join identical as well as dissimilar materials. In doing so, we weld customer material provided or draw on our diverse material stock. In addition to typical materials such as copper and copper alloys (e.g. Cu-DHP, Cu-OF, nickel silver), stainless steels (e.g. 1.4310, 1.4404, 1.4571) and aluminium (e.g. AlMg3, AlMgSi1), we can also join materials that are difficult to weld (1.4016, carbon steels/C45E, tantalum) or, for example, cobalt-chromium and shape memory alloys (nitinol).

Our laser welding systems offer a wide range of processing options through the use of different welding regimes. Temperature-sensitive materials and thin-walled components are preferably processed using a pulsed welding regime. Hermetically tightly welded or optically highly appealing weld seams can be realised by continuous laser welding (cw welding). The SHADOW® technology is the right solution for spot welding of components with an optimally adjustable joint cross-section or welding of the smallest contours, e.g. welding of the finest capillaries in sockets/bores. The use of shielding gas for laser welding ensures a corrosion-free and strong connection. By equipping our systems with a continuously adjustable rotary axis, it is possible to process rotationally symmetrical components as well as complex 3D geometries.

Sensor housings, lapping needles, conveyor belts, cell connectors or battery contacts - these are just a few of the components we manufacture for our customers.

Strong investments in the area of laser fine welding

Thanks to continuous investment in new laser technology, we have innovative processing optics which, by means of exchangeable lenses, can be used for high-speed beam oscillation for laser welding as well as laser cutting and drilling. With this direct combination option of different processing technologies, precise drilling and the finest welded joints can be realised in the shortest possible time.

All features at a glance:

  • high-speed oscillation welding - pulsed or cw, with single-mode fibre lasers
  • high-speed "on-the-fly" laser micro-drilling
  • high-precision control of motion, energy input and remelt depth
  • stable welding processes in highly reflective materials and in combinations of dissimilar materials
  • precise shaping of the weld cross-section in width, depth and profile

Test what binds forever

In order to support our customers in the area of quality assurance, we offer a possibility to check the seam quality with the micrograph of weld seams. With leak detection equipment and crowning chambers, we can offer our business partners additional added value. We are able to carry out helium leak tests in-house with measurable leakage rates of up to 5.0x10-12 and also to test the tightness of hermetically welded housings ourselves using the crowning process.

In addition to laser processing, our customers rely on our complementary range of fine machining technologies, which also enables us to manufacture sophisticated assemblies and modules in-house. We offer among others:

  • precision bending
  • mechanical processing (turning/milling)
  • glass bead blasting
  • vibratory grinding

Component identification and marking is also possible. Whether annealing, deep engraving or engraving - with the laser we mark components for eternity.

Do you have questions about laser welding and other technologies, or do you need help with the realisation of your project? Thanks to our know-how in process development and our own strong R&D department, we will also find the right solution for you. We will be happy to advise you.
